According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 8 foods
account for 90% of food allergies.
These foods are:
- dairy (milk, cream, cheese and related products)
- eggs
- peanuts
- tree nuts (such as almonds, cashews, walnuts)
- fish (such as bass, cod, flounder)
- crustacean Shellfish (such as crab, lobster, shrimp)
- soy & soybeans
- gluten including wheat
Canada adds sulphites and sesame to the list of top allergens.
Other foods that most commonly cause allergic reactions are:
- yeast
- garlic
- corn
- oats
- lentils
- kiwi fruit
- chili peppers
- sunflower seeds
- spinach
- oranges
- chicken
- strawberries
- tomatoes
- pork
- beef
